School Day~

Well, the school is going to start 2 days later. This is the last post for the year 2004, but I have nothing to say. Usually, my idea comes when I saw something unique, like clouds or something alike.

When the school starts, I’ll publish less post at my blog, but at least 3 days/ a post. Well, I’ve got a faster network connection speed, so in the future I’ll be able to make my blog better.

Okay, happy new year♪

means you must be quick at something. Whether
its running, swimming, or answering questions,
you are super speed. But of course, you have a
craze for video games or computers. You can
play amazingly at any game or at least try to.

Modern Mythology

The word ‘mythology’ always gives people an image of old time and ancient lifestyle, but actually it presents itself in our modern life too.

I like the Saturn's moon, Titan. Beautiful name...

Many planets are named after the name of gods and goddesses, like Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus……these planets’ characteristic reminded people about the ancient gods. This habit starts from the Renaissance, when people discovered a more complete solar system. Even modern invention also named after the gods’ name. Like ‘Thor’ the tank, was named by the name of the thunder god of Norse. The main characters, who symbolize the lucky stuff of the latest Olympic Game, were also named Athena and Phatos.

The name ‘Gaia’ often used to symbolize the mother earth, or something else related. While ‘Titan’ was a word means gigantic, Titanic was named after it.

Some festival is a part of ancient myths and art too; every festival has its own unique story. Most of them are legend, which involved gods or legendary creature.

There are also many unsolved mysteries on earth, which related with myths and legends. In 20 century, it’s the age of mysteries. Most of the unsolved problems are discovered by that time. For example, the Bermuda Triangle and one of the seven wonders, Pyramid. Wonders are the most popular topic for archeologist and scientist, Pyramid is the most mysterious stuff I’ve ever heard. The chemical reaction which occurs inside the Pyramid and the mummification are what scientist cared the most.

There maybe some unique civilization which hasn’t been discovered, until now. Some places are less population or less visitors, may have a hidden civilization. Like the Sahara Desert, the South Pole, the Pacific Ocean, and Greenland. Some scientist said that the earth is hollow, and there is an advance city in it.

The art and legend won’t disappear, because they are crystallizing of human’s thought.

The Titans

Gaia, the mother of Titans.

The Titans were giants who live a million years earlier than human, in Greek myths. Some Titans are human like, while the others have animal’s characteristic. The Titans are the children of the sky god, Oranus (in some legend, he was named ‘Uranus’) and the god of the land, Gaia. Zeus was given birth by them too.

Almost all Titans like battle, except Prometheus. He was the Titan who taught human how to use fire and build stone houses. But this is only a Greek tale; historical record told us that human discovered fire themselves.

The Titans have many generations; it was mainly divided into two parts:
  • The generation before Zeus;

  • And the generation after Zeus.

Almost all Titans after Zeus become gods; some Titan even shares the same ‘occupation’ with Greek god. Like Helios the Titan is same with Apollo the sun god, they both guard the sun.

Titan, however, with his own huge body, didn’t live on earth. They also live in the Heaven above Mount Olympus. Some wonders are built in the Titan’s honor, for example, the great Colossus of Rhodes. But this wonder was destroyed, until now, nobody can totally proof that this thing existed.

An existence of a Titan is impossible. If a baby continues to grow with the speed when he was inside his mother’s body, the Titan maybe exist. This baby will grow until 2km, but this isn’t enough to reach the height of a Titan.

To Add Something for My Previous Post

To Add Something for My Previous Post

I missed something about the elements of Ancient Greek last time, so I have to tell you in this article.

The four elements have their own and shared properties:

Fire--hot--water--wet--soil--cold--air--dry--fire--hot--water...........

That’s all!

Ghost

Every civilization’s myths mentioned ghost or devil, they signifying the bad and evil side. But are they?

Not all of them are evil; some ghost in Chinese tales helps people. If ghost really exist, then it must be a matter. But what kind of matter they are? They maybe gas, because some tale described it as something invincible or transparency. But if it is a living thing, it can be neither gas, nor liquid. An organism must be solid, but movable. Ghost can move, as many stories tell, so it must be a living thing. It has spirit, or it is a spirit.

It is something solid but untouchable? This seems unexplainable, or even ridiculous. But if different space exist, a ghost maybe true, too. If a ghost is a thing in other space, but in a same time with our space, there maybe a conflict or combination between these spaces.

But is a ghost really a spirit of a human being? After we died, what happened with our mind?

This seems difficult to be explained.

Is ghost only a matter of light?

In the Middle Age, many people saw witches communicate with spirits. Some improper religion worshiped Satan in the Middle Age, too. They believe their soul will be strengthened. Some photos have proofed that ghost exist, but this maybe a creation of light.

Is human like a robot, after it has been destroyed, then it has gone forever? Or something still there?

Curses

Many Egyptian and Greek myths involved curses, witches and mummies are often related. In modern ages, the explorers of Egyptian Pyramid often get sick or died after they enter the sealed chamber inside a pyramid. Somebody says it was the curse to punish the person who bothers the Pharaoh. In Greek legend, even weapons are curse to be stronger.

If we explain these curses with scientific facts, we may get several points:
  • Coincidence, many things could happen in anytime;

  • There maybe some decease or harmful chemical matter inside the pyramid which can make a person dies.

  • More advance technology, it maybe just a better weapon dealing with others.

No history record that proof a curse really happens.

Curses can make a person lost his confidence, and also can strengthen a person. If a person believe it, he will surely affected by it. This is a matter of trust, it’s a personal concept.

Witch are frighten by people in the Middle Age.

In the Middle Age, witches were the scariest thing that people fright of. But nothing serious was done by witches, only blind prophecy. Oh yeah, some prediction was related with curse also. Like some prophet who predict havoc will happen or some leader will die etc.

Curse is like a prophecy, it depends on chances.

Something about my Blog's Title

Have you noticed my blog's title, I changed it a little bit...hehe, I added the trademark symbol on it...

:D

The Element

Ancient Greek thought of what is the origin of everything, scholar of metallurgy said that the world was built by the four elements: air, fire, water, and soil; while the Chinese said that the main elements are fire, water, gold, wood, and soil. The similarity between them is both of their deduction contains fire, water, and soil.

Modern metallurgy.

Fire, water, and soil are the most common thing in our daily life. Fire, a gas that needs enough heat, a combustion helper, and enough Oxygen to fire up, was discovered by human in Stone Age. It maybe started by a lighting bolt, but ancient people still don’t understand what fire made of. Like the Sun, fire symbolizing heat. I think this is why people listed fire as their main element. They know the importance of heat.

Water, soil are important for corps growing, people choose what are important for them as the main elements which brought life to this world. But air contain many types of element (as we known in modern discovery), plus it is untouchable, people cannot study it easily. But sometime when some chemical change occurs in the air, the air’s color may change. The air is a sensitive thing; Greeks do many times of experience to discover its profile, this maybe the factor of air being a part of the main elements.

Some gods are the guardian of an element, the elemental god. Like the sea gods in each civilization, they are the symbol of water. People admired the ocean for a long period; the deep blue sea gave them the space of imagination. Fire god, like the guardian (I don’t really know his name) who guards the volcanic place in Norse tale.

Actually, the origins of life forms are Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Carbon, Sulphur, and Phosphorus (you must remember this six). Human took a long time to discover things, starts with the first step: imagine.

Somewhere the Gods were...

In many legends, savannah, desert, mountain, sky, sea, river, cave…etc is always where gods or oracles stay. I reckon that a place that hasn’t discover by people often become a holy place for gods. Sometimes, some of the places might be a monster’s nest.

Mountain is mysterious for ancient people.

Legendary tales often involved desert or mountain, I wonder why. But I have a few opinions:
  • Ancient people don’t have advance transportation to go across the deadly desert, maybe someone died while he was passing the desert. Water is rare in a desert, and human need water. But sometimes mirage happens in the middle of desert, and spotted by people. They might think that it was a living thing, but if human can’t live in the middle of a desert, who else? Finally, they said there was something called ‘god’. Some ancient people thought gods were living thing, I guess.

  • Mountain is always covered by mist; people don’t have advance technology to see through it. So, they imagined that something (someone) doesn’t expect to be discovered, without a serious thinking, they said that is a god. Monster maybe one of the living things on the mountain, and people might think that it was the god. Many kinds of animals live in the forested mountain; some might be uncommon for local villagers, because they maybe haven’t seen this before.

  • Sky is the most popular place where gods gather together, in human thought. This untouchable thing let them think that it is the most suitable place for a holy god. Clouds and star are the ‘land’ for god, while there are palaces upon the sky for gods to live.

  • Some creepy place like cave and deep lake might frighten some people; they thought there is some monster or dragon live inside. In conclusion, people imagine where the gods live because of their fear, curiosity and ignorant.

    The God and Human

Sometime I ask myself, god(s) created us or we created the god(s)?

This is a tough question, hah?

Some religion said that the Creator created all things in the world, this support my first deduction. But according to scientific theory, told by Darwin, people were evolved by ape. The evolution of mammals denied the Creator, totally.

Yes, I must obey my first law of this blog: Any article or comment in this blog must obey the scientific law, theory can be ignored. There’s a conflict between the third law and the first law. But, if there is some historical record that can support the second law, the third law will be weakened.

But no human saw what happened before they exist, this is impossible. This is a question involved different religion’s concept, thus strengthened the third law.

The most wanted thing is your comment, your answer…I’ll conclude them someday.

The Three Laws of My Blog

I’ve posted the 3 laws on the sidebar, take a look at them.

    The Pandora’s Box

    Pandora's Box contains many feelings...

Have you heard about the Pandora’s Box? Many years ago, the gods of Greece kept ‘sorrow’, ‘bad’, ‘evil’, ‘greedy’, ‘sadness’, and many kinds of feeling into a box. This box was guarded by a girl named Pandora. He was told not to open the box, but his curiosity makes him to open it. Then the things inside the box were released, those bad feeling went into human’s heart, and then people started to hate each other…but there is one more thing that brighten the world, hope.

So, what do you think? Hope, yeah, it always lets us to be joyful and happier. Human have many kinds of feeling, either bad or god, they are balance. But if one side is stronger than another, the person will be affected.

We have to try to control our emotion or mood, try not to affect another person because of our unhappiness.

    Ideas—Wanted!

Argh…my brain is blank; I have no idea what to post on this blog. If you do have any idea, any, just post it on this article.

Nowadays, I’m studying history, but I don’t get enough information and what I get are in a mess. And I discovered something different between history and mythology, year. I can’t get a proper year or age in mythology study, when I refer to different information; I get different number of year.

    Maybe I'm a soldier in WW2...

Have you heard about your ‘previous existence’? Nah…some religion doesn’t agree with it. Anyway, talked of religion, it’s tough for me, too. I had to care about it, if I don’t want to hurt anybody. A religious believe affect a person deeply. Okay, back to my question, this is a matter of mystery. You see, nobody can proof where do a man goes after his death. And his soul may reborn as another person.

I asked this question because yesterday I stared at my hands, it made me thought of who am I if there is a previous existence of me. Maybe many years ago, I’d once stared at own hands also…

Whatever, I just hope you, anyone, can give me your idea, or what you want me to answer, for me to post something fresh. Thanks.

    Sacrificial Ceremony

A cow was killed to pray the god.

The cruelest act of human is sacrificing someone without proper reason; it’s wasting a person’s life. Everyone has his/her own right to live. But ancient people didn’t care about this; they simply sacrifice a person for rain or healthier crops. Some cruel kings kill their own people without reason to take out his anger.

The Maya Empire was one of the nations which sacrificed most people. The territory of Maya in the Middle America sometimes experience the hot season, and the crops doesn’t grow properly. So the Mayan simply kills a person with a sacrificial knife or pushes them into a sacrificial pool. Egyptian and some cruel Chinese emperor also order somebody to be sacrificed for better weather.

Some natural phenomenon also causes a person to be sacrificed, like eclipse. Ancient people thought that an eclipse happens because the gods are raging. To release the wrath, the gods let people to suffer without a sun. This case tells us about the ignorant of ancient people, they are short of science knowledge.

But sometime a sacrifice must be done, for an example, war. For millions of years, people battle to gain benefits, to expand their territory, to become a conqueror or an emperor, for wealth. But in this progress, somebody might have to die. Many soldier or even a commander has to sacrifice himself in the battle. But this kind of sacrifice is worthy, they’ll be remembered.

Sometimes, we have to pay to get something we want.

    Something about Predictions, again

I read about something about prophecy today, I concluded the inconsistency of predictions:

    1) In some predictions, the words used by the prophet or oracle are not clear enough to have a proper meaning, they may have another meaning;
    2) Some prophets or oracles made too many predictions and increased the percentage to make a right prediction.

There is nothing 100% true, much less prophecy!

    Something about Art

This is one of the Renaissance art.

Art is linked with a civilization’s culture, different culture has different art. Renaissance was the most vigorous period of art; books were published in Europe and China. And then trader brought their own culture to another country, this caused a variety of art in a country.

But after the revolutions and World War One, art started to fall. Inventories and communication replaced art, but later the research of mythology and ancient arts rise again.

Before 400B.C, it was the ancient history, people rarely expand their territory, they only develop new art. Ancient art was linked with daily lives and myths; they think something new but don’t study them. This is the different of ancient live and modern world.

Art is crystallize of our thought, it affect us deeply. Even in modern ages, many products used old days’ pattern as their designs. Books are the most important remains of art, their collected the knowledge of ancient people. Latin and portraits are the greatest artwork, I reckon.

Prophecy and prediction are a part of art too; they reflected the thought of ancient people about their future. Ancient people rarely think of their future, they care their present the most. But modern people keep planning about their future to get more knowledge. This is also a different between old days and now.

Art makes different between history and time, old and modern.

    Chromosome

    Some dwarves fight in wars...

As I said, some legendary creatures maybe exist:
    1) Giants;
    2) Dwarves;
    3) Hybrids (mermaids, half-human…)
    4) And dragons.

Except giant and dwarves, other creatures weren’t born by humans. Some of them might be a child of a lizard and a god, some of them might be a child of a butterfly and a fish (?).

But different species of animals can’t give birth together, because their chromosome doesn’t match with each other. Besides, what will happen if they matched?

    A Point of View

Seth, the god of devil and desert killed his own brother.

Do you consider that mythology is an art? Well, I do. I reckon that mythology is to satirize humankind.

Every civilization has their own religion, and a religion has its own gods. But some of the gods is same with us, they suffer. I consider that Egyptian and Norse gods suffer the most; they always wanted to be the mightiest god. Like Odin, the major god of Norse, he help the strong side to win a war, he never let the weaker wins. And Zeus, the major god of Greece, he give birth to many children that are mostly half-breed, hybrids, and illegitimate child; while Seth, the desert god of Egypt killed his own brother.

Ancient people might create these legends to satirize the life of human. Many gods are like humans, they live with jealousy and greedy.

And war gods, were only an imagination to let soldiers believe that they were blessed. Some of those war gods might be a real hero, but a dead people can’t possibly bless someone.

Gods, in my opinion, were used to let people have confidence. They don’t really exist. In proper religion, like Christian, Muslim, and Buddish, their worshipers don’t rely on their god(s). Proper worshipers learn the moral of their religion, not to learn how to be a god. Ancient people battle in a war because they believe they can become a god after they died.

The Special Features of European Mythology

Hero was blessed by god for victory.

Most of the fairy tales start in Europe; they talked about heroes, dragons, devils, and fairy (of course). But there’s a distinguish feature, the good always wins.

Heroes were the most popular character in European Mythology, Greek heroes were the mightiest. Heroes were believed to be a demigod; they have super power to defeat the evils. Like Heracles the strong guy, son of Zeus, had awesome power to lift a huge mountain and broke a cursed chain.

Heroes often fought with dragons, and dragons always symbolize the bad side. European myths attached important on the weapons. Heroes often equipped heavy and cursed weapons. In some portraits and poems, heroes were armored with spiky armor, long sword, and a heavy shield.

The moral of European mythology—the good always wins—handed down until today. The opponent of a hero was often stupid and dumb. For example, in ‘The Odyssey’, Polyphemus the Cyclops was defeated by Odysseus easily. Besides, there is another unique feature among European tales: heroes fought to save the princess. I hate this part of story.

Besides of dragons, witches and leviathan are also heroes’ foe. Medusa, the snake-haired woman who can turn a person who was staring her to stone, was killed by Perseus. Witch was hated by the European of Middle Age. In 10th century, almost all witches had been burned into ashes. Now you can see, what people hate is always a hero’s foe.

    Natural Phenomenon

    Thunder--a natural phenomenon.

Some gods were linked with some natural phenomenon, like Zeus the thunder god of Greece. Thunder storm, earthquake, volcanic action, wind, rain, and lack of rain are natural phenomenon. But ancient people don’t know how these happen, their (always) thought that these were the creation of a god.

And then, many kinds of gods were created by them, thunder gods…sun gods…snow gods…moon gods…even every planet in the solar system was named after their names.

Ancient people’s thought was different with us, they are ignorant. They keep imagining the unknown.

    Sacred Animals

Black cats were believed to be witch's pets.

After a month of research, I have made a conclusion on why ancient people had sacred animals.

Cats, serpents, cows, elephants etc. are sacred animals of different religions. Why did people choose these creatures as their unique animal? I have made a summary:

    1) Natural powers: Some animals have their own powers like sensing upcoming havoc or earthquakes, but ancient people didn’t know it. They reckoned they were a power given by the gods, something impossible for humans. For example, rats and cats escape before an earthquake happens, and some insects hide themselves before a heavy downpour. Maybe ancient Egyptians already discovered that some animals’ corpses didn’t rot inside the pyramid, like cats; but they do not know that a pyramid may have a natural force that may prevent remains from decaying.

    2) Fear: Maybe there’s some case like: a person died after a cat stared at him, this kind of case always happens. Most of these were coincidences; a glance of a cat cannot kill a person. In The Middle Ages, cat was believed to be a witch’s pet; people believed that a cat brought bad news. But these are totally ‘sacred’, maybe ‘scared’. Cats and serpents were sacred to The Middle Ages’ people, this maybe because they feared them.

    3) Sacrificial animals: Ancient prophets always sacrifice some animal to the gods, to let corps grow faster or ask for a rain. The sacrificial animals must be a sacred or god-like animals.

In conclusion, people thought some animals were sacred because they didn’t know anything about it.

    The Origin of Legendary Creatures

    Giants may really exist...

The imagination of sacred creatures and gods may be able to be separated into two causes:

    1) An imagination of a person: Imagination is mainly within one person, some incredible creatures like the Chimera were impossible to be accepted. This kind of imagination might be started by:
    a) A desire to do something: People wanted to fly since they saw birds flying freely, they might have thought that some people may has wings to fly. Most Egyptian gods have wings, like Isis and the Sphinx.
    b) Poor discovery: People before 16th century rarely discovered the outer world; they thought it was danger out there. They thought many dangerous creatures (imagined by them) could hurt them.
    c) Religous effects: Almost each ancient religion has its own sacred animals, I can’t figure out how they started to think about it. Besides, those sacred animals were often cats, birds, serpents etc.

    2) A true witness: Among all legendary tales, some of them maybe true. Some creatures are explainable, like European dragons, hybrids, dwarves, and giants. After the Renaissance, people began their journey of exploration. Besides these, the creatures in ‘The Odyssey’ might be true, but not all. I reckon the following factors maybe the origin of legendary tales:
    a) Rumors: A tale of an explorer may pass to another person and spread to the whole country. When the news was spreading, who knows its contents won’t change?
    b) Aliens: Ancient people do not know about outer space, they thought humans were the only intelligent creature. When they saw an alien, they might create a bunch of stories and tell the others.
    c) Mutation: A variation may happen among the animals living in the forest, when a hunter or a peasant saw them; in that time, no scientific fact could tell them what was happening.
    d) Enlarged creatures: An octopus may be normal, but a giant octopus may frighten someone. Some of those legendary creatures may be enlarged animals, especially sea monsters. In the old times, items for exploration were weak; people couldn't decide what was on the seabed when the weather was bad. Besides, they might have seen mirages.

The above passages are my opinions, I wouldn't bet that they are totally right…

    Ragnarok as told by Han

Right, Myth Guy wanted me to talk about Ragnarok, so here I go....

First of all, if any of you fools think I'm talking about the online game, go somewhere else.... we hate Ragnarok Online :P

Anyway, the first sign of Ragnarok's coming is when there's a 3 year long winter known as 'Fimbulwinter' During that period all of mankind will be fighting each other. Brother slaying brother, father slaying son, son slaying grandfather etc etc.

During all of this Loki will be freed from his imprisonment and he will gather all the giants for a final battle with the Gods of Asgard. At this point his daughter, Hel, will gather all her dead minions (those who died not in battle and went down to Hel) and they will ride on a boat made solely out of human nails. At this point the huge sea-serpent Jormungand (one of Loki's sons) will emerge from the ocean to join the battle. They will all gather at Vigrid Plains for the final face-off with the gods.

What about the gods? Heimdall, the keeper of Bifrost bridge will see the great enemy approaching and will blow his horn, warning all of the approaching foe. Odin will then gather all the gods and Eihenjar (I don't know exactly how it's spelled). Einhenjar are warriors who died gloriously in battle.

Soon the battle begins. Fenrir, who was previously bound by chains will break free of his chains. He will devour Odin. Thor will die in a duel between Jormungand (Jormungand will die as well) Tyr will be killed by one of Hel's wolves I think (he's always had trouble with wolves, if you've read about him and Fenrir...). Many god will die. Nidhogg will succeed in chewing the root of Yggdrasil, and both the Sun and Moon will be devoured by the wolves who were chasing them. Finally, after the battle, two humans will survive and they will repopulate the earth. There will be other gods who survived the battle as well. Both Hoder and Balder will reincarnate (yay!). I found this really interesting article.

Go to http://www.ragnarok.no/ for a much deeper explanation on Ragnarok...

    Foreseen and Foretold

    Do ancient prophet foreseen today?

Try to imagine your future, do you fore sense your next second?

Fate and luck are only words, f-a-t-e and l-u-c-k, they are meaningless. They’re just an imagination of human, there are no such things. Among all abstract things, fate and luck are the most unexplainable. Even a person’s destiny, you can say it’s empty. Ancient prophets were believed to be a foreseer, but are they true? They may have, if they are time-travelers.

Here I must do a quick explanation about time-travel:
Light is the fastest matter in the world, nothing can compete with it. Imagine that this world is combined by time and space, it’s a 3D world. Time is something that has equal speed with light, it means light is time. If something has the energy of light, it may travel through space and ignoring the time.

My studies of mythology included fore tales, like some prophecy. But almost all of these are about chances. The percentage to make a right prophecy is less than 1%.

A prophecy is unbelievable, but if it is true, nobody can change it. If a prophecy became true, than the future is like a history, it is already known. If there is a little change, the whole history will change…Imagine that you killed your father or your son before he was born…

The point is, fore tales are annoying us, to make a different between a true record in writing and a prophecy. It made the research of mythology harder.

    Conflict between Revolutions with Mythology

The execution of Louis 16th in French Revolution, people cared about the new leader.

Revolution is a renew activity that changed people mind totally, even their art and creations. I don’t know how people mind change, like the French Revolution, it refreshed people thought. Renaissance was a revolution too, a revolution of art. It recalled Greek and Roman culture and art, the study of mythology rose.

But modern revolutions are about political matter, it’s not for improvement, but for benefits. Revolution between nation and nation affected the studies of mythology and art; people cared about their country, either win or lose. It’s all about politics, and this is what I hate the most.

A total change of people's thought obliterated the achievement of mythology and art. The imagination of humankind did no longer exist, they don’t care about it. We human start enjoying music and art since we have thought, but the will to win affected the development of arts.

When World War One began, there are only allies and enemies, no more neutral. Win and lose are the only things people cared about, benefits, benefits, and benefits…

A revolution for mythology studying should begin, and a combination of modern science and ancient art should be researched.

    Temporary Reincarnation

Ra, the sun god of Egypt appeared to be bird-headed.

Gods transform to another object to complete a mission, Zeus, the major god of Greece had once transformed into an eagle to kidnap a handsome boy. Norse gods always transform to another person, they rarely become an animal. Egyptian gods were almost all half human, like Ra, the sun god, has a bird’s head. Chinese Buddha transforms himself to help people and defeat the evils.

The Greeks believe that the reincarnation of a god will become a constellation; while Egyptians believe those sacred animals are the transformation of a god, like serpent, cat…Loki, the Norse god had once transformed into Freya, the god of beauty and love, to help Thor to get back his Hammer.

    Rest and Relax

-1's blog contains black hole also! Me likey~

Yesterday, I finally get -1 on trail with us, me and Han. He had his own blog already! It about mysteries, like X-files, I got the link on my side-bar. He invited me as his partner, I accepted it. I’m interesting in science, so I can aid him.

Managing two blog isn’t an easy job, like Han~!

Sometime I think my articles are out of topic; if you do reckon, tell me. This meeting must be the best. Now, I’m going to continue my comics…relax…I had to clear my mind…

    :D

    Culture and Civilization

Greek art included the popular sarpedon vase.

Does culture or civilization came first? The culture I meant is the particular system of art, thought, and customs of a society; And the civilization mean the type of advance society of a particular time or place…

A culture is the combination of art and thought, and history. Humans are born to have thought, otherwise mythology won’t exist. People started to enjoy arts when they have thought, but do art and thought affect a civilization? They sure did, so they do come first then civilization?

Civilization is a result of culture, but this doesn’t mean culture comes first. Because an artless tribe may call a civilization, this doesn’t conflict with the mean of civilization. An artless tribe may advance without art, like robotic technology, it’s artless.

Culture, civilization, and mythology are the crystallization of human’s thought. They are the creation of us, who was the first doesn’t really important.

But I do need your answer and opinion for further studies, thanks.

    Major Gods

This is Zeus sitting on his throne.

There must be a leader for a group of people, even the gods need one. Every civilization has their own gods, and the worshipers mainly serve the main god.

Like Zeus, the major god of Greece, who lived in Mount Olympus, was well-known. He’s the god of lighting. I think the Greek didn’t pick him as their main god because of his thunder hurling ability, but he’s the best among his brothers, Poseidon and Hades. Poseidon the sea god was too reckless, he had once defeated by Athena. However, Hades was the god of death, and the death god rarely becomes the major god.

In Norse mythology, there were two kinds of tales telling different major god. Odin, the god of war, was mentioned often in Nose mythology as the major god; but some of the historical remains said that Thor, the god of thunder, was the major god. Norse people always choose the war chief as their mightiest god, and in later records, Thor started to compete with Odin to become the major god.

Ancient Egyptian admired the mighty sun, so they worshiped it as their major god, Ra. Ra was a god with a bird, and he’s same with the son of Osiris, Horus. A sun always hanged on his head as his symbol. He was often appeared with Osiris, the god of death in early carves.

However, proper religions’ major gods are their ancestor. Whoever started a religion, he’s the major worshiped god. Middle America’s civilization has a few details for us to discover their myths. Until now, we only know that their worshiped the sun god. It’s similar with Egyptian, and the origin of the American (or Red Indians) maybe the Egyptian.

Not every major god has the best quality, like Norse gods, they fight with each other to get the first place. Egyptian and Greek goddesses give birth of half-breed or kill their children…

    Ragnarok—A Discovery!!!

    Soldiers in WW1.

The Ragnarok is a war between Norse gods and the giants and the Lokis. Here, I won’t tell you the story of Ragnarok, it is Han’s job. I’m here to discuss something about ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’.

Ragnarok means ‘the decline of the gods and their fate’, in ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’, I found something interesting. ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’ might be completed by a prophet of ancient German in 1000s, and this period was the decline of the Norse, not many historical remains were left.

And the following is what I found, interesting:

In ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’, one of the prophecies foretold the happening of Ragnarok, but the Ragnarok might be not happens in ancient Norse, it might be the World War One. ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’ wrote:

After the arrival of the Fimbul Winter,
    There will have no sunlight, and strong wind blows from every direction;
    After three cold winters,
    There will be no more summer;
Than there will be three more winters,
    At the same time,
    The war began.
    People kill each other,
There will be no more peace,
    And everyone become greedy,
They care only their own life,
    Not others.

    *I translated the above passage.*

The prophecy’s mentions were same with an uncommon event, the explosion of Tunguska. This event happened in 1908, than after three and three winters, it means after six years, the World War One happened, in 1914.

This maybe just a coincidence, but it may also be not.

The winters mentioned in ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’ might be the dust blew up by the strong explosion of Tunguska; and the cold wind mentioned in ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’ might be the strong wind caused by the explosion, too!

World War One might be the Ragnarok, because this war was began by the Germans, and the Germans’ ancient civilization was linked with the Norse. ‘The Witch’s Prophecy’ might be right, the war happened in Europe, neither in Asia nor Africa nor America nor other.

But who were the gods in Ragnarok (or WWI)? If Ragnarok didn’t really happened, then why it was named with ‘the decline of the gods and their fate’? There must be somebody who was the ‘gods’, they maybe generals of the frontline, and those giants maybe those tanks…

    Sea Monsters

A raging leviathan can causes a havox.

Ancient sailor often told stories about the appearance of sea monsters or leviathans. In Greece, sea monsters were often spotted on the surface of Mediterranean Sea and Aegean Sea; Egypt’s leviathan was always appeared in the Persia Gulf. Norse’s krakens were said to live in the deep trench.

Sea Monster was sometime a dragon, but it rarely split flame. Sea Monster was often having the look of an octopus or sea snake. It often crushes boats and ships.

But those monsters might be the ancient form of life. Octopus and sea snake appeared on earth earlier than dinosaur; these sea monsters may be their generations. For example, the lake monster in England, it shapes like the long-necked dinosaur.

The tales of sea monster were popular from 16th century until 19th century, this was the age of pirates. Many pirates’ shipwrecks were believed to be destroyed before the stolen goods can be found. These kinds of incidents can be explained by science also. Science wasn’t popular until the French Revolution, so people of that time believe of tales rather than facts.

Storm and whirlpools are the best explanations for those sea accidents. Storm and whirlpool always happens, and destructive. When it was the Renaissance, people scared to sail because of sea monster. But when South America, Australia, and East Africa were discovered, people started to sail to Asia for trades. After the Napoleon War, the ship-building technology was advanced, people can sail faster and safety.

But until now, some of those leviathans still exist, but they maybe just a false impression.

    The Spirit Within

There’s a similarity between each civilization, each. Why each civilization did imagined heaven and hell? Why must these two places exist together? Why can’t only one of them exist?

People died everyday, people asked about where does died one goes is an ordinary question. But why every civilization thought of heaven and hell? Indeed, there are good and bad guys in this world, but why can’t a person just die and go away forever?

Ancient myths and even proper religion have their own idea how do heaven and hell are. The same thing is, the heaven is a wonderful and perfect place for the good one; while the hell is for the bad one to suffer.

Indeed, people believed causes and effects, but the question is still there: why people can’t just die and go away forever? Believing of soul and spirit is the main cause, people think there must be a place for those things, the good one, joys; the bad one, suffers.

People’s spirit, I mean their mind, not their soul, is something abstract, it’s an opposite of matter. It’s against the scientific facts. It’s out of our imagination. It’s better to think that a spirit is a natural force than saying it’s an imagination.

How about animals, how about all living things? Do they have spirit, do they think as we do? A robot doesn’t think like we, they calculate. So, they don’t dream. A person dream because they have something called hidden consciousness. Their brain work, they think.

If a thing does think, it has mind. And if it has mind, it has spirit. This is a chain reaction, a living thing has power to think, and it’s like some force, supernatural. Science use brain wave to explain this, but the brain wave is too weak, and too hard to sense. Someone in a comma condition may not think, they may have lost their mind. No mind, no spirit. But if a person doesn’t have spirit, he’s died. So, the above passage is against my earlier words.

This question is a matter of believes, your answer is affected by your trust or religion. But answer from the aspect of science is always the same.

    The Ancient Astronomy

The Jupiter, is mysterous for ancient people.

As I said, in the past, rich people were served by their servant, so they had nothing to do. Therefore, they had time to imagine many things.

Since ancient people discovered other planet, they started to imagine how the solar system comes. In that time, people thought Earth was the centre of the solar system, because they considered that Earth was the most sacred planet, where humans live.

And the nearest planet from Earth, Venus, can be seeing by eyes, in the early morning and evening. And it might be the first planet humans discovered. Its beautiful colors let people thought it was the embodiment of beauty, and it was named after the name of the god of love and beauty.

The second nearest planet, Mars, was named after the name of the god of war. In Greece, Mars was Ares; Mars was called by the Romans. Mars’ red colored surface made people felt bloody, same as war, which brought death and blood to people.

And the smallest planet of all, Mercury, was named after the name of the god of messenger. It was because of the speed of Mercury surrounding the Sun, it was the fastest. Mercury the god has a pair of winged shoes that let him flies to deliver things.

Jupiter’s size made it easy to see, although it was far from the Earth. Jupiter was the largest planet in the solar system, and some of its satellites are bigger than Mercury. Because of its great size, people named it after the name of the major god, Zeus. Zeus is called by Greek; Jupiter was the Romans’ call.

Saturn’s symbol was a ‘K’, symbolizing Kronos the titan. Kronos was the son of the sky god Oranus (Uranus was named after him). I don’t know why people gave a name to Saturn.

Egyptian and Greek had advance astronomy knowledge; they studied planetary for a long period. But their calculations were almost wrong, and even their concluded that Earth was the centre of the solar system. These errors were affected by their trust; they had puzzled by those prophets or sorcerers’ defined view. They believed that the gods were the mightiest, and gods created a world that only wonderful things can exist.

So, they thought this world was wonderful, like: a planet is always a round; a planet’s orbit is always rounded. But they’re absolutely wrong.

We can’t always trust gods, we must believe ourselves, that we can do anything.

    Deep Thoughts

What thought does mythology give you? Do myths mean a lot for you?

For me, mythology is nothing, really, nothing. Mythology is like me, myself, I know it very much, too much. Honestly, I’m a pessimistic person, I’m rather weak-minded. I felt sad easily, and mythology fits my personality.

Since last year, I known mythology, and I started studying it. It was like my mirror image, my shadow. I found it suits me, I like it. It brings nothing but sorrowful thought for me, but I like it, specially. The history of mythology tough me the mean of humane, the mean of living—suffer.

This is not a fairyland, full with happiness and wonders. No, it isn’t. It’s sorrowful, everything ends unfortunately.

You may think I’m too busy, thought too much…Yes, you’re right. I must admit that, really, I thought too much. I thought of something I shouldn’t think, my thoughts are not for a boy in 14 years old, not for a boy who had no friend to express his thoughts.

But I found mythology, I knew it well, and it knew me well, too. It’s the only thing, almost the only thing which can comfort me. Too bad I don’t have many friends to express my thoughts, but my studies. I studied science since I was young, really young. I can’t leave it, so I continue studying it, with mythology. But there’re conflict between them, what they contain do not match. Then I collapsed. I can’t find my way.

I tried to combine them, but it’s not too satisfying. Then I regret to think too much. But I like the feeling of thinking, I enjoy it. I just like to sit quiet and think what I want to think. My mind is calmed down when I was thinking. And my mind was my favorite, I like it, it helped me all the time. And when mythology came to me, I had more thought. Although this is not suitable for a 14 years old teenage, but I think my mind can handle this. More thoughts don’t bother me, I enjoy it.

Someday, somehow, I’ll close this blog, signifying my last thought of mythology. I knew it; I knew that I must give up my thoughts. But mythology still stays, it will, in my heart, or deep in my memories.

It’s like the sky--I like the sky--, it had unpredictable changes, like my destiny. This is my chosen path, I will, I must, continue my journey trough this sorrowful way. This is my path, my destiny, my style…

At least nobody had to share my sadness and pain, nobody bothers it. Some of them, my friends, are not living in my country; the other may not be interested in mythology, may not be care about a teenage suffered from his thoughts.

Let this past, let this become a part of the historical remains. Let myths and legends be endless, let the wind fly away my damned thoughts.

Still, I’ll cheer up to complete this blog, to complete my puzzles of thoughts.

    Knowledge of Gods and Goddesses

This is Athena, the wise god of Greece.

Each civilization has different culture, what they think is different. Since gods were their imagination, their thought, therefore different nation’s gods had their own properties.

Chinese gods are highly admired by Buddhists; they had moral values that used to aware people. Some of the Chinese demigod, known as ‘Luo Han’, often comes to earth to help the poor and people who suffer. The Chinese gods gain their knowledge from self-calming (as a form of therapy). They will understand the unknown, they will sense the unseen.

But Norse gods are the different, they’re unique. Ancient Norse people thought that this world is only snowy and full of fire (please refer to Han’s previous post), and the gods used their knowledge to bring life to this world. Even the war god, Odin, hangs himself on Yggdrasil, to create the Norse words, Runenschrift. And Odin lost one of his eyes to drink the spring of knowledge, Mimir.

Athena, the wise god of Greece has her own style. She solved many kinds of problem and once defeated Poseidon, the sea god, with her knowledge. But sometimes even gods are jealousy. Athena transformed Medusa into an ugly snake-haired woman because of her beauty.

Like Egyptian gods, they live like humans, lived in jealousy and suffering. Seth, the god of storm and devil, cut his brother, Osiris into pieces; Osiris wanted to kill his own jackal-headed son, Anubis, but Isis hid him…and more.

Some Greek gods and Titans kill the innocents. Like Kronos the Titan, he ate every son his wife birth, until the born of Zeus, he got a stone in his big mouth. Zeus had many wives, that Hera hated most.

Some gods are like we humans, they may have knowledge we don’t have, but we may suffer least than they.

    God Versus The Devil

This is the famous Trojan Horse.

The Trojan War was one of those famous wars in the past. Agamemnon helps his brother to fight Troy, because Prince Paris of Troy stole the wife of Agamemnon's brother. The soldiers of Mycenaean sailed to the beach of Troy and shattered the enemies' front line. But the king of Troy wasn't scared, he said that Apollo the sun god will protect the Trojans, and they will surely win this war. But this kind of prediction not always accurate, the Trojans were defeated.

Cases like this happened always, when the leader over trusted the gods, victory may not be his. The gods often used to encourage the soldiers, but failed sometimes.

Like the Crusades, they were holy wars. For 200 years, the Christian and Muslim fought to claim Jerusalem, known as the Holy Land. Both side said they fight for their gods, but which side's the right? They both believed their gods were proper, but who got the right answer? For 8 times the Crusaders battle with the Muslim, but the Christian won only 1 time. Well, the reason maybe the Muslim said, that the soldiers died in the Holy War will enter the heaven. This might agitated the Muslim warriors to fight bravely.

In the other side, Chinese rarely do that. Ancient Chinese often fought for the good side, but which? When two tribes fight with each other, both of them said their side was the good one. This is the same case with European wars. God or Devil, good or bad, these don't mind the final victory.

Every civilization has their own war god, but now every of them were wise and justice. Odin, war chief of Norse, aid only the strong side to win a war. When Odin throws his spear to the opponent, it means the opponent must lose. This caused the strong one being stronger and stronger, the weaker never rise again. But Athena and Mars are not Odin-styled gods, they treat all the same.

Since 1960s, when the Vietnam War was happening, people started not to decide which side's the good. The war was said to be a matter of politics. Communist and Democracy is the only things people cared.

Gods don't really exist, it was only an imagination, and gods stay in your heart, if you do trust. No science fact can proof the gods exist; this is not a matter of fact.

The Egyptian Pyramid (compared to the Mayans')

    This is the Egyptian Pyramid.

This is the wonder of the world, one of the unsolved mysteries.

How could the the Egyptians build such an enormous building? This huge building needs advanced technology to complete, but during the Iron Age, people didn't have such technology. So, how did Egyptians build the pyramids? Although many scienctis had inferred how the pyramids were built, not everyone has agreed.

Among the inferences, two are acceptable:
    1) The aid of aliens;
    2) The physical method--the Egyptian may have such knowledge...
    and mine--time-travel again.

The aliens maybe suitable, but this is barely a match with the existence of aliens. We don't know much about the existence of them, maybe there are aliens, or maybe not. So, this inference has 50:50 chance to be right.

The knowledge of the Egyptians were limited, so the second theory may be wrong; but the third one may be acceptable...I had explained the method to travel trough time...so, what do you think?

Do the Egyptians and the Mayans share the same origin? But their gods are not the same, with the exception of Ra being the same as the sun god of the Mayan, and if these two civilisations shared the snake god, why can't they be from the same origin?

The Mayan Pyramid (compared to the Egyptians)

This is the Pyramid of the Mayan Empire.

This largest pyramid of the Mayans reached 34 meters high, of course, this is lower than Khufu's. There were boulders surrounding some of these pyramids (most are now ruins). The Mayan Empire was called also the 'Empire of the Sun', since the Mayans prayed to the sun as their main god. Besides this, they also prayed to snakes.

Unfortunately, the Mayans were defeated by the Spanish in 1521. And this is what I hated the most, the Spanish destroyed all of the historical remains of the Mayans!!! This is the most foolish act in history! The books left were failed to be translated, all because of the Spanish!

    The Chinese Dragon

    The Chinese Dragon!

Ha! I finally found this picture, the most beautiful Chinese Dragon~!

And you can see there's a unicorn beside it, just ignore it (it appeared accidentaly). This dragon's motions are actually the Chinese emperor's favorite. The dragons symbolising the ruler always bind themselves or roll themselves up.

Beyond the Myths—Greek, Roman, and Norse—Part Two

This is about wars, the aggressive nations that show no mercy upon the weak.

There is no doubt that the Greeks were great fighters. Spartans trained themselves since they were only kids, while Athenians studied philosophy and the art of mythology. In 776B.C, the first Olympic game began. The Greeks believed that the gods lived at Mount Olympus, where the Olympic games were held. Zeus, the lightning god, was said to be the head of the gods. During the Dark Age, the Greeks started to fall, followed by the victory against Persians. But Sparta and Athens fought against each other, ending with the victory of Sparta. But Thebes defeated Sparta in the end. In the end, Greece lost in the war against the Macedonians. Then the Macedonians became a part of Rome, and this is why the Greek culture is a bit similar to the Romans'. Even the gods of the Romans are same as the Greek, but their names were different.

Next up is the Norse peoples of Northern Europe, they are Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. These countries are believed as the homeland of the Vikings. In 787, the Vikings launched their first raid on England beaches. Then in 795 and 834, Ireland and Netherlands were invaded by them. But the Vikings were defeated by the English, and there was peace, for a while. Until 1030, the Vikings still had their own religion and trust in mythology. But after this, the Holy Roman Empire captured their lands, and they were converted to Christianity. The Vikings finally gave up their gods, and the Holy Empire destroyed their things and the historical remains. This caused the loss of Norse mythology studies, only other culture-related counties maintained the lead of Norse myths, like Germany.

While the Vikings fell, there was a civilization building up in Ancient America.

Beyond the Myths—Egypt, China, and India—Part One

People fought for their benefits, for glory, for victory, even for peace. But not every war ended with peace, most war brought suffering.

After the Ice Age, humans established the first civilization.

Egypt was established during the Stone Age, while the Chinese had done this 1000 years before, they were scattered. The lower part of Egypt fought with the upper part of Egypt, it ended when Menes, the pharaoh of the upper part conquered the lower part. He then united Egypt and combined the crowns of Pharaohs into one. There were a few gods during the reign of Khufu, the owner of the largest Pyramid in the world. The Egyptians invented paper made from trees, it was useful in their artwork. As the Egyptians began to capture more land from other tribes, their territory grew. Then the Persians invaded Egypt (525-404B.C.) and this was during the late period of Egypt. Then Alexander the Great overran Egypt, the Egyptians surrendered before Alexander launched his first attack, and named Alexander ‘The Son of Ra’. Egyptian culture and myths fell after this, they left only the Pyramids and Mummies for us to study.

In Asia, the earliest civilization was established on the upper part of Huang He (a river with yellowish water), the ancient Chinese used club with a roughly-made stone knife as weapon. As they lived near the river, they gained food easily, so they had time to think: Who brought us to this world? Then they imagined all kinds of legendary tales as their answers. After Qin Shi Huang united China, the prophet of China started Dao; they studied myths and taught people the morals. Chinese symbolize the dragon as the emperor; they believed that the dragon was the greatest animal. And they also symbolize the Phoenix as the queen. The dynasty of Han was the strongest period of China, there were many inventions like paper, bombs, compasses and china. Then the temporary decline of China was during the reign of the Mongols. But the Chinese drove them off and established the Ming dynasty. Then the Manchu ruled China in 1644, but the people were still studying mythology. The studies died when the Europeans invaded China.

In about 321 (easy to memorize) B.C., the foundation of India was done. Buddhism started, Ashoka converted to it. Ashoka was the emperor of India (269-230B.C.), he listen to his people’s advice and views. Buddha was born in 563B.C; he was believed to have saved suffering people. This religion, a part of mythology, spread into the land of East Asia. The people of the East Asia believed in this stuff, until now.

These 3 countries have a similar, internal disorder. It was a matter of the ruler; nearly every civil war happened because of the mistake of an emperor. When the people lost their confidence in the king, they rioted. This is why the empire of Egypt fell.

On the other hand, the Chinese civilization was the longest-lasting kingdom until now. The Indians were nearly 4500 years after the Chinese. Until now, many Chinese still have a superstitious belief in myths; this affected the advance of China.

    Inactivity

I apologize for my inactivity lately... I've been working hard at my blog (if you've gone there, you might notice several changes)

Anyway, I've just ran through all that Myth Guy has posted and corrected any grammar/spelling mistakes. Now I guess I should post some mythological stuff too.

I don't have much to tell right now (I'm so sleepy) But remember when I promised to find out more information on that 'cute' little squirrel Ratatosk in Norse mythology? Guess what, that little guy happens to be a real devil. Apparently there is an Eagle at the top of the world tree in Norse Mythology. Also, if you've been paying attention to my previous posts (and Myth Guy's) there's also Nidhogg gnawing at the roots of the tree. Well, it seems there is a constant dispute between these two fellas. And each time one of them has something nasty to say to the other, guess who passes the message? Yup, Ratatosk. He 'transports' all the gossip and insults between the two (what a life).

Quite funny for Norse people to think up these things...

    Blog Improvement

Okay, now I realised that I there is just a few pictures in my blog. So, to improve, I 'm going to add more picture in each of my blog (atleast one). If you felt tired with my long long passage, inform me, I'll change it, okay?

    The Age of Mythology

When did mythology start? It started when a civilization began, when a nation gets in touch with the others. There are many kinds of myths and legends in each different country. Therefore, I can’t tell you all of them one-by-one. Among to popular ones are Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Chinese, Celtic, Aztec, Oceania, Maya, Indian, and Roman mythology (it’s a bit same with Greek, since it replaced Greece).

The gradual decline of mythology started first in the Dark Ages, people lost their confidence in their religion. Malaria spread all over the Europe, many people died everyday. And the fall of Rome affected Mediterranean countries, and then civil war began.

Fortunately, the Renaissance revived mythology, scholars from different nations started to learn the art and culture of Greece and Rome, this started in Italy. The Renaissance spread over East Asia and Europe, many countries had improved their artistic culture, even new religions arose.

Now, after the Renaissance, came the reformation of religion. There were wars between different schools of religion, like the Muslim and the Christians. After that, every country began to improve their technology (afraid of war, I think).

Some European countries wanted to trade with Asia, but the Ottoman had blocked the way between Europe and Asia, so the Europeans had to sail. The ship-building skill and the technique of navigation had improved; people of Europe started to explore the sea. The most active countries of the sea exploring included Spain, Portugal, England, and France. Businessmen of these countries sailed to Asia; they brought not only trades, but also culture. This is why some of the countries in Asia have culture similar to Europe’s.

During the Industrial Age, mythology falls once again. America rises, no more myths, but trades. But China still had its own style, the Chinese still believed and studied mythology (and this is why we Chinese’s technology is behind European countries). Some of the Chinese philosophers built a new religion, the Dao. Dao means to calm yourself and to think clearly. Later there was Li Xue, the scholars of Li Xue kept asking the unknown and solved it.

But when the Europeans attacked China, these studies stopped. War always hinders studies.

And When World War I and II happened, mythology fell entirely. It revived after 1970s (after the Vietnam War, I think). Now, people start to combine mythology with scientific facts, since mythology is a part of religion.

And I think I can remember where I put my old books, since I typed this whole passage without even taking a glance at my history text book…

    The Undersea Civilization

Is there any unknown creature on earth?

Do you reckon only sea creatures, like fishes, prawns, and whales live in the sea? The sea covers ¾ of the earth, this large area contains many kinds of living things, we can’t deny the possibility of undersea civilizations.

Atlantis is one of the undersea civilizations I have heard of, after it was fell, many scientists guess that the Atlantians evolved into undersea creatures. This inference of evolution created a stir worldwide.

One of the mysteries of earth, the Bermuda Triangle might have a connection with Atlantis. The mysterious "walls" surrounding the triangle maybe the invention of the undersea civilization. But how could this civilization improve and research technology that is far more advanced than us? They must spend a long period to evolve into undersea creatures, or be able to make the necessary adaptation to their changing environment.

Therefore the above theory might be wrong, but there is another mystery yet to be solved, the origin of the Red Indians. Many people wonder where the origin of the Red Indians is, if they didn’t cross over the Bailing Channel, between Russia and Alaska. The American Continent was separated by the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean from the European and Asian Continent, so if mammals doesn’t successfully evolved in the American Continent, then how come the Red Indians exist? Maybe they rised from the sea? Or did they just fall from the sky?

The myths and legends explain these, but they are not always the right. Myths and legends always add color and emphasis. But some philosophies or theories might be acceptable, like the Atlanteans.

This is a science question, but not only science can answer it.

This is why I want to combine science facts with mythology; personally, I do like science, too.

Now, the third and forth paragraph I mentioned needs your comments, either mythological or scientific, or both.

    Place of Death

    This is a Minion.

Now, here’s a question about death: Where do you think we go to after we have died?

This isn’t a tough question for neither ancient Greeks, Egyptian, or Norse peoples…These people have their own stories about this question.

Well, for the Greeks, they believe people will go to the underworld of Hades, Erebus after death. The Greeks buried the death with a coin; they believe the coin will be used to pay the sailor of the river Stynx. And those raging souls will become shades for vengeance. Hades, the god of death rules over the underworld.

As for the Egyptians, I know only the Pharaohs, they keep Pharaoh’s organ is a box and place the body inside a coffin. The corpse was preserved tidily and stored in the center of the Pyramid, guarded by a Sphinx.

The Norse people, on the other hand, believed people who didn’t die in war go to the fiery place of Hel, the daughter of Loki. There the soul doesn’t have any peace, they suffer. But the warriors who died in battle will go to Asgard, lead by Valkyries, maidens of Odin.

We Chinese believe a good person will become a part of god after he/she has died, the bad person suffer in the hell. And the normal one reborn as a man or animal, it depends on his/her value.

    Okay, that’s all!

    Phoenix

The Phoenix--does it really exist, or did it exist?

This bird burns itself into ash and is reborn after 500 years. It is popular among Egyptians; they believe it is a noble creature and it will stop all bad things from happening.

But this flaming bird doesn’t always show itself, some believe only a kind and person who needs help would be able to see it.

Think of it, how could a bird burn itself and come out unscathed, this can’t be true. But how could they imagine such things, they imagined so many legendary creatures…But none of them are real. I believe at least one of them is true, a real thing that exists.

    Dragons

    This is Nidhogg.

Dragons are evolved or mutant reptilia, with large bodies and scary motions. But not every dragon is dangerous, Chinese dragons, for example, signify nobility and wisdom. Chinese dragons have four legs, no wings, and are scaly. Not every Chinese dragon breathes fire, some of them live in the sea or in caves. They do not need wings to fly, and they crawl.

But European dragons are not the same, they are always evil, disasterous, and are always killed by a hero in fairytales. These dragons have a pair of large wings to fly. They spit flames from their mouth, which are full of fangs.

And there is a dragon chewing on the roots of the World Tree in Norse mythology, Nidhogg. I didn’t find any dragons in Egyptian mythology, but the Greeks have a lot of them. Chinese dragons are the symbol of the kings; the rulers of ancient China wore clothes patterned with dragons. Chinese believed that dragons brought health and wealth to them.

    Dwarves and Elves

Roll For the dwarves and elves, they are common in Norse Mythology. The dwarves have excellent skills in producing weapons and jewels out of gold. Even Odin’s weapon, a spear, was made by them.

Elves have characteristics like dwarves too, they both have sharp-ended ears, are tiny, and have basically the same facial shapes. Elves barely come out during the day; they only come out at night. Elves live in forbidden forests.

These tiny creatures who didn’t live with humans didn’t really like humans. They seldom met humans face-to-face. But they had some similarities with humans, like greed and jealousy.

The dwarves are absolutely different from giants; they have only one main purpose to live for: mining gold and using them to produce things…

The elves, on the other hand, just play around and enjoy themselves.

    Mutants

DO you realize that ancient people liked mutant creatures--like the bull-headed Minotaur, winged-horse Pegasus and more?
I don't understand why they keep 'making' stories which include these creatures. There must be at least one real creature among all of them...but which one?

The mutants seem to have different genes in their body, so that they have different characteristics. But some of them seem to be impossible, like the Chimera.

Mutants include half-breeds, trolls, dragons, etc...And giants. Giants, I think, could possibly exist. Because it’s just an overgrown human, and its actions are like ancient cavemen. So I do really think Giants exist...even now...

    Circe--Greek

This is Circe, the witch who lived on a island near Greece, and transforms people who sail to her island to pigs...

I wonder if present science facts can solve this mystery...The genes of human don't change easily, and if this is not a legend, I don't believe magic can transform us into a lower-level mammal.

Circe may be a person who successfully researched the method of changing genetic systems...

    Chinese Mythology

No wonder I felt something is amiss...I had missed out the Chinese Mythology!
Now, I'm gonna add in this subject...

The Chinese civilization was built up 5000 years ago, as a Chinese, I know a lot about this long period of history. The Chinese civilisation began as various tribes and clans, then Qin Shi Huang--the first king who ruled all the nations of ancient China started his dynasty.

By that time, the rich had nothing to do, so the creative-minded started mythology study. And then as the Indian culture came to China, Buddhist tales and morals affected the Chinese.

Then the first tale of gods began.

    The Golem--Greek

    the Golem

This is the rocky golem in Greek mythology, it's better to say that it's a 'non-lifeform creature'.
A golem is grouped together by rocks, isn't it similar to the present thing--robots?

I wonder how ancient people " foresaw" our invention...

    Atlantis

Somehow I'll solve the mystery of the lost empire--Atlantis...

For 3 years I tried to track Atlantis, trying to find out how on earth did this empire fall...But I failed. Nobody is aiding me...So I wasted my time...But I am yet to find out the similarities between the Greek legend and Atlantian tales.

So, one day, I continued my journey to discover Atlantis...I collected a lot of tales about it. Then I was reminded of something--time travel.

A person may travel through time if:
    1) he had the same speed of light--but this never happens;
    2) he managed to travel through the blackhole--with the speed and energy he earned, he may travel by time, but before he succeeds, he might be crushed by blackhole;
    3) he is helped by aliens;
    4) or, this is a bit ridiculous--the gods aided him.

The high technology of Atlantis shows that the Atlantian's weapons or lifestyle may be the same with us. According to legends, the Atlantis attacked Greece once, they arrived by large ships and unknown weapons (at that time nobody knew what they were).

There is no way that a empire can invent such items at that time, no civilization can improve their technology so fast in a short period. But a time-traveler can do this, and this gave me an idea.

The Bermuda Triangle might be where Atlantis located, and the mysterious "wall"might be a supernatural defensive wall invented by the time-traveler...
But the Greeks said Atlantis might be located near the island Crete, and the havoc made by the volcano destroyed it.

Nobody knows why and how Atlantis disappeared, but somehow...I'll get the answer.

Chronicles of the Gods: Thor and the Giants

There was one time the Thunder God Thor, Loki and his two servants, Thialfi and Roskva, went to Jotunheim to challenge the giants. The king of the giants challenged Thor and his companions. Loki took the first challenge, an eating competition.

Loki was fast fast, but the opposing giant ate everything including the plates, the bones etc. Thialfi was up next, his was a race. He was fast, but the challenging giant won even before he knew it. Thor then challenged the king of giants to a drinking match, but as hard as he tried, he could not finish the drink. Thor was then challenged to lift up a cat, he could not even move it. Thor took on the final match--wrestling with an old woman.

    He lost.

Thor was not actually that weak, the king of the giants had used magic to fool them. Loki ate fast, but his opponent was Fire, who devours everything in its path. Thialfi was as quick as ever, but his opponent was Thought, the fastest thing in the world (the fastest thought goes at about 580kmph actually, doesn't sound that fast to me : )As for Thor's drinking match, the drinking horn was filled with the ocean, but he drank so much he created the tides. The cat whom Thor tried to lift was actually Jormungand, the terrible sea serpent which circles the universe. As for the old lady, she was old age itself! Thor put up a great fight, but old age beats everyone in the end...

Well, that's how it goes I think. There may be some errors so......

Norse Mythology: Norse Worlds part II

    Hello! I'm back again!

As I have promised, I will now give a slightly more detailed explanation of the Norse Worlds.

There were nine Norse worlds, held in place by the mighty tree: Yggdrasil.
At the top of the tree, the stars sparkled and birds flew. At the bottom of the tree, a dragon called Nidhogg gnawed on the roots. A squirrel called Ratatosk runs busily up and down between the branches and the dragon. I'm still trying to find out more about this cute little mythic figure ;)

Norse people believed that their world (Midgard) was linked to the gods' world (Asgard) by a rainbow bridge, the "official watchman" of the bridge is the god Heimdall. The middle worlds are circled by a huge sea-serpent, Jormungand.

Well, that's all for now, tune in for my next episode: Chronicles of the Gods: Thor and the Giants

The Similarity of Gods and Goddesses

You see, since I study mythology...I found that Greek, Norse & Egyptian gods and goddesses have a shared and similar 'life'. They live just like us humans, and they also suffer from pain, dissappoinment, sickness, and being attacked...They don't live peacefully like Buddhist Gods...besides, they fight against each other to get something they want...and they also argue a lot...they have children--we call them 'Heroes'--who were half-breed, monster etc. Actually, I don't like these kind of 'sacred gods'...I wonder why those ancient people liked their gods so much...

    Hei, something noteworthy!

When I was using a search engine to find out more about myth & legend, I "accidentaly" found something cool!

The division of Greek mythical creatures into two main categories is purely for organization purposes. These categories - "hybrids" and "monsters" - serve to distinguish between different types of mythical beings.

Hybrids : a hybrid is a composite creature - examples are the centaur (combination of human and horse), and the harpy (human and vulture); these mythical beings populated the imaginations, literature, and art of the ancient Greeks.

Hybrids included: centaur, cockatrice, giants, griffin, harpy, satyr (faun) and sirens.

Monsters : the monsters section mainly features beings that are singular entities - in other words, there is but one Minotaur, Medusa, or Pegasus in Greek mythology; monsters were generally either friends or foes to various Greek heroes.

Monster included: Argus, Cerberus, Charybdis, Chimera, Cyclops, Hydra and etc...

    There's still more to explore...

    Osiris--Egyptian

The god of death--Osiris, he is always dressed in white with his Crook and Flail, Osiris is shown as a man with a beard wearing white mummy wrappings. I will tell you his tale later...

    Chimera--Greek

This is the mutant creature--the Chimera or Chimaera, it is a combination of a goat, serpent & lion...the Chimera is a creature of the sky, possibly linked to storm and thunder. A savage beast, sprouting fire from its mouth, it devastated the land until it was killed by the hero Bellerophon who flew over it riding his winged horse Pegasus.

Norse Mythology: Norse Worlds part I

I'm gonna give a brief introduction to the field I'm strongest in--the Norse Mythology :)
Just as a summary, Norse people believe that there are nine Norse worlds, all held in place by the tree of life, I can't remember the name of the tree, though. Anyway, the tree is split into three sections. There's the upper worlds, the middle worlds and the lower worlds.

    The Upper Worlds:

Alfheim: Land of the light elves
Asgard: Land of the Warrior gods and godesses
Vanaheim: Land of the gods and goddesses who make things grow

    The Middle Worlds:

    Jotunheim: Land of the giants
    Midgard: Land of the humans
    Nidavellir: Land of the dwarfs
Svartalfheim: Land of the dark elves
(I've recently read that dark elves are actually dwarves, I'm still looking into that)

    The Lower Worlds:

    Muspell: Land of fire
    Niflheim: Kingdom of the dead

That's all for now, stay tuned for the next episode: Norse Worlds: part II !

    Valkyries--Norse

The Valkyries are maidens of Odin, they serve Odin and lead dead soldiers to the glorious hall Valhalla...

    Trolls--Norse

This is an ugly one--the forest troll. It lives deep inside the dark forests of Norse lands...ready to hurl rocks to you~WAMP!!!

    Scarabs--Egyptian

This is the giant Scarab of Egypt, who crawls on the shifting sands...waiting for food to hunt...WAMP!!!

    Pegasus--Greek

This is the winged-horse, Pegasus...It is an incarnation of Medusa's blood, when Persues killed her...then Persues mounted it and defeated the sea monster which was trying to kill the princess caught by the Mermaids...

    Mountain Giants--Norse

This is the Mount Giant, with his awesome muscles and a huge club that could smash your head off easily...

    Collosus--Greek

This is the giant Collosus...Who chrushes down the Wonders of Greece...Piercing weapons are useless against his Gold Armor...

    Cyclops--Greek

This is my favorite--the single-eyed beast, Cyclops!
He is the son of Poseidon, he guards Zeus' thunderbolts...

    Awesome!!!

    Avenger--Egyptian

This is the Avenger, the avenging-beast that haunts the shifting sands of Egypt...
I'll find out more details about him... :D

    Anubis--Egyptian

This is the soul-stealer--Anubis, the son of Osiris...
I'll find more details about it...or should we say "him"...

    OK, here's the other detail:
He guided the souls of the dead from the world of the living to the world of the dead. Anubis was also responsible for weighing the actions of the deceased in terms of good or evil. He is also considered the inventor of embalming and mummification, who had embalmed and mummified the dead god Osiris.

    Other Names: Anepo, Anpu
    Father: Osiris, Set, or Ra
    Mother: Isis or Nephthys
    Wife: Mat
Depicted: Anubis is usually depicted as having the head of a jackal.
